Within two weeks of filling out its online application, using my real name and personal information, several CCA prisons contacted me, some multiple times. And even if I could get uncensored information from private prison inmates, how would I verify their claims? I keep coming back to this question: Is there any other way to see what really happens inside a private prison?ĬCA certainly seemed eager to give me a chance to join its team. Their records often aren’t subject to public access laws CCA has fought to defeat legislation that would make private prisons subject to the same disclosure rules as their public counterparts. Private prisons are especially secretive. When prisons do let reporters in, it’s usually for carefully managed tours and monitored interviews with inmates. As a journalist, it’s nearly impossible to get an unconstrained look inside our penal system. I started applying for jobs in private prisons because I wanted to see the inner workings of an industry that holds 131,000 of the nation’s 1.6 million prisoners. BoddingtonWhile artistically I understand why so many questions were left hanging in the air, a big part of me still wouldn't mind some filling in of the blanks. If this is a big pet peeve of yours, I don't recommend this movie. I do feel it's important to understand if something is or isn't.Ī lot of this movie is left open to interpretation. Historical accuracy has never been huge for me, though. It was not seen as such a solid concept as it is today.Īgain, this could arguably be the intention of the director, handling a modern issue on a different platform. It's also important to note that sexuality was much less. In reality, shudo was considered a higher form of bonding and there was extremely little concern over who participated in such acts and who didn't. For example, there is a lot of concern in the movie over who "swings that way" and who doesn't. I won't give an entire Japanese history lesson here, but homosexuality was not fraught over as it is in the movie. In a way, it's modern-minded characters in a historical setting. In terms of historical accuracy, Gohatto is right on the money for everything except the subject it's primarily dealing with. Rewatch Value 5.0 I'm going to start this review with a sort of disclaimer, and that is that a lot of my "problems" with this film are arguably just artistic nuances that don't align with my personal tastes. 5/27/2023 0 Comments Night sins guilty as sin tami hoagIs the nightmare continuing…or just beginning? In this one we get the story of Joss's friend from the bar where she works, Johanna. I actually listened to this one before Until Fountain Bridge, but I decided I'd review them in chronological order for the series. Going through each of these memories really helped me to fall in love with this couple, more than I already loved Ellie from just her being Joss's friend in the first book. We even go back and read about the horrible events at the end of the first book, when Ellie had received the life threatening news that really brought Joss and Braden together. There are memories from when he did seem to know, and even when he did catch on, and the way he turned her down makes you cry. There are sweet moments from when she was pretty young, and Adam had no idea how he affected her. Adam comes in while she is looking through them, and so she finds parts in each one to show him how her love for him really started, and all the different moments that led them to where they finally are in love and happy together. In it, Ellie is going through her old diaries, thinking that she might give them to Joss to help her write her romance novels. But really this was a pretty good length. We know that she pretty much ended up with Braden's best friend Adam, so I guess they didn't need a full book to themselves, hence this novella. This story follows Ellie Carmichael who is Braden's sister from the first book, and Joss's roommate. 5/27/2023 0 Comments Moon Lord by J.P. ReedmanAnd, although it’s a sequel to Stone Lord, it will stand alone, although I have to admit that, when I’d finished it, I re-read both books, and found things fell into place a little more easily. It helps, although it’s not strictly necessary, to know something of the Arthurian legend, so you can see how cleverly the author has interpreted it. Mordraed wants one thing, Ardhu’s throne, and will stoop to any skullduggery to get it.īut, although the book does conclude with the fall of Stonehenge and Ardhu, let’s not give too much of the plot away. Stand-alone sequel to STONE LORD, Moon Lord is a book set in Britains prehistory such as youve never read before. She’s done it again! After an extremely readable and realistic twist on the King Arthur legend in Stone Lord, where she whisked the King and his followers from the Middle Ages back to the Bronze Age, where they probably belong, the sequel has now been produced.
